Our Experts

We have pulled together a team of the best trainers, nutrition experts, exercise kinesiologists, physiotherapists, yoga teachers and bodywork practitioners to lead your purescapes retreat experience. With their professional expertise onside, you will be guided in making the right choices for your renewed health and wellbeing. And of course, they all know a bit about having fun too!

Reza Niam, Founder, Trainer, Golf Biommechanic and Holistic Lifestyle & Nutrition Coach

One of the top fitness specialists in North America, Reza says, “Our program is about finding the right balance for you”. Reza has trained numerous senior executives and top international athletes in Canada, the U.S and the U.K.

He holds a number of international certifications in fitness, nutrition and holistic lifestyle. As a high performance exercise specialist, he knows how to maximize results to elicit the best from beginner to elite athletes. Internationally, Reza has spent several seasons as a head fitness specialist, trainer and nutrition & lifestyle consultant at resorts in the UK and Europe.With an engineering degree from Toronto, 9 years experience in the corporate world, and CEO of a respected international nutrition supplement company, Reza understands the stress involved in a professional lifestyle. His approach will teach you how to manage and balance your energy to create a lifestyle that is right for you.

Susana Vidal, Co-Founder, Nature Guide (Marine & Hiking)

With a Masters Degree in Marine Biology and coastal management and a post-graduate Degree in Nature Tourism, Susana is well qualified to bring the environment into your purescapes program.

After running a tourism company in the Algarve for over five years planning nature oriented holidays, Susana joins Reza in creating purescapes. As your Leader in Nature, Susana will show you how to integrate nature’s beauty and tranquility into your life and educate you on balancing your personal needs with the needs of the environment around you. Susana’s passions are sustainable tourism, tour planning and lecturing to university students about nature tourism and marine biology.
Susana is an avid swimmer and runner and loves beach volleyball and cycling.

 

 

 

Ben Coomber, Trainer

Armed with a diverse and knowledgeable background, Ben joins the purescapes team with the experience and passion to help you succeed in your goals!

 

He is currently obtaining his degree in Sport Coaching and Performance at Hull University in England, and he also holds certifications in corrective exercise, holistic lifestyle coaching, and currently works as a CHEK practitioner and exercise coach. In the past he has brought clients great success in creating specific sport exercise programs, correcting movement patterns, and attending to various spinal pathologies. A man with many interests, he currently plays in his university's rugby and hockey team, and loves acting, art, and photography.

Tracey Harris, Trainer

Tracey joins the purescapes team with a wealth of expertise and experience With a degree in human Kinesiology from the university of Waterloo, Canada,

Tracey is specialised in working with athletes and injured populations and is especially strong in endurance sports and group training - building challenging, stimulating programs to meet every need. She is a fully trained and licensed Kinesiologist, formerly holding the position of Head Therapist with The Royal Hospital Chelsea in London, England, as well as a Primary Care Paramedic in Toronto, Canada. Tracey is very excited to be bringing her formidable training and talents to our retreats and is looking forward to the challenge of producing the best in each and every one of you.

Emilie Hartigan, Trainer

Whether it’s leading a mountain biking tour in the Alps or a sunset yoga class in Australia’s Outback, Emilie brings the same enthusiasm and expertise to each activity.

 

Australian by birth, she has lived everywhere from the West Indies to Washington DC; now residing between France and the UK. A fully-certified personal trainer, Pilates instructor and yoga teacher, she’s studying to become a naturopath.
For Emilie, real health is not some mysterious, intangible goal. “You just need to be patient and take the time to find the right balance for an individual. You can’t design one approach and expect it to fit everybody- it is about what works for each body. The program should fit the person, not the other way around. Do that, and success is inevitable.” She joins purescapes as a Trainer and Yoga teacher, blending her fitness focus with a holistic approach to wellness.

 

Melissa Drews, Nutritionist & Lifestyle Coach

Melissa joins us as a Nutritionist and Holistic Lifestyle Coach to offer a revealing look into your knowledge and approach to a healthy diet.

Holding a degree in Dietetics from the University of Wisconsin, U.S.A. that has been enhanced by a number of additional nutrition certifications she promotes nutritional principles that are designed to honor your body's unique, individual wisdom and specific needs.  As a CHEK Holistic Lifestyle Coach, she emphasizes the philosophy that ideal nutrition is not 'one size fits all' - and with education and encouragement during your stay, she will help broaden your horizons about the best choices for you. She is passionate about helping others experience a greater degree of health and true freedom
in their daily choices. Melissa owns a nutrition, exercise, and life coaching business in Madison and she loves all kinds of outdoor activities - especially tennis!

 

 

Greg Wells, PhD, Sports Science Consultant & Endurance sports expert

Greg joins purescapes as a fitness program consultant and in the future will be involved in developing and running endurance specific programs for us.

Greg is an instructor at University of Toronto’s Department of Physiology and Faculty of Physical Education and Health, teaches at the Canadian Sport Centre’s National Coaching Institute and has published numerous research articles on improving performance in elite athletes.
As the exercise physiologist for the Canadian Sport Centre, he works closely with Canadian National Team athletes in the area of physiological performance enhancement.
His athletes have won numerous medals at Commonwealth Games, World Championships and Olympic Games.
He is a former international level competitive swimmer, has won a national championship in water polo, has twice completed the world's toughest marathon 600 miles north of the Arctic Circle at Nanisivik, Nunavut, Canada, and recently completed the 10,500 km Tour D'Afrique bike race.

Adrian Li, Trainer

Adrian offers an eclectic mix of knowledge, experience, and motivation gained from years of higher learning, competitive sports, and tutelage under learned masters in martial arts and health sciences With client

including professional and amateur athletes and leaders of industry, Adrian is in high demand for his technical expertise and his ability to share this knowledge with you.
A background in Physical and Health Education, from the University of Toronto, continuing education with the C.H.E.K. Institute of California (Golf Biomechanics) and the Institute of Human Performance of Florida, he has forged a philosophy of training that will help you improve many aspects of your life.  Something as simple as improving your golf handicap to helping you achieve greater self esteem, Adrian will ensure that you will find the best in yourself.

Ricardo Rosinha, Trainer and Holistic Lifestyle & Nutrition Coach

Ricardo hails from Portugal and is armed with a degree in Human Kinetics and injury management as well as numerous certifications from the C.H.E.K (Corrective Holistic Exercise Kinesiology) Institute.

He has trained students in schools and in the Portuguese navy. He has also worked at several fitness clubs in Ireland and Portugal. Ricardo is a navy officer and is currently the assistant to chief physical education for Marines school, Portuguese Navy.

Maria Pereira, Massage Therapist

Maria focuses on teaching you the impact of the state-of-mind on the energy and well being of your body

Maria’s expertise in Thai & Ayurvedic massage, meditation and Ayurvedic medicine has been fostered by her in-depth training in India, Portugal and Thailand. She believes “a truly healthy body is impossible without a truly healthy mind”. With years of practical experience, Maria also spends many months of the year in India and Thailand learning from the best and will utilize her expertise to make your holiday a relax and peaceful one. Tita holds a degree in Marine biology.

João Mealha, Surfing Instructor - Billabong Pro-Rider

Director of the Freeride Sagres Surf School, João is credited by the Portuguese Surfing Federation and has been teaching since 1998.

Two times surfing champion of the Algarve, Portugal and one of the top representatives of the Algarve in the National and European surfing circuit, João has more than 15 years of surfing experience in the west coast of Portugal, Indonesia, Mexico, Brazil and Morocco.
