Location & accommodation
Province of Girona is in Catalonia, in the north east of Spain. The villa is set in the midst of the beautiful Catalan countryside, with views of the Pyrenees and the Volcanic National Park.
Guests will stay at a 15th century mansion renovated into a luxury villa with eleven en-suit bedrooms, wireless internet, gymnasium, an on-site 25m heated pool and jacuzzi.
This area is also blessed with fantastic swimming facilities. For open water swimming there is the crystal clear Banyoles Lake, which is only 5km from the villa. It is approximately 2km long and 0.5km wide and is an incredible location with the volcanoes of the Garrotxa region rising from its western edge. This lake was the rowing centre for the 1992 Olympics.
From the cycling point of view, there are the fantastic network of good quality quiet roads and off-road trails, which wind across the Mediterranean lowlands, then up through the wonderful volcanoes of the Garrrotxa, before finally reaching the Pyrenees. The foothills of the Pyrenees are within two and half hours ride of the villa, giving one all sorts of possible training rides depending on ones fitness and ones training schedule. So it is of no surprise that this area is a cycling heartland, with many pro cyclists and mountain bikers making this their base year round, including a 7-time tour de France winner.
